Raft River Elementary had a fantastic 2011 track and field season. Kids from Grades 4-7 trained at the school under a committed group of teachers including Doreen Allan, Diane Bishop and Grace Gormley. Practices were during lunch as well as part of the school curriculum.
Several students also participated in an after school track and field club initiated by Crystal Wadlegger and coached by Dan Coleman. Alex Arduini, Marie Dee, Shelley Sim and Ross Wilson provided parent support. This was the second year that Coleman provided coaching expertise to both Raft River and Clearwater Secondary students. His dedication to coaching and travelling was a gift to the program and students.
Events started with a school wide track and field competition at CSS, with top performers progressing to Zones in Kamloops. Students there competed against four other schools and those who qualified in the top of their events then moved on to compete in Districts, which were held on May 31 and June 1 in Kamloops. With over 15,000 students in District 73, students of Raft River did exceptionally well and can be very proud of their efforts.
Students Mason Wadlegger and Savannah Dee received Aggregate Awards for their performances. These were given to those athletes who place in the top three of their track and field events.
