Editor, The Times:
I am a sociologist who recently moved from Vancouver to Clearwater to work from home, settle down, and enjoy the area’s natural beauty.
The longer I’m here the more I fall in love with the District of Clearwater, and I’m ready to deepen this relationship by being a city councillor. Since being here I have gotten involved in softball and other activities, and attended several council meetings.
I am ready to listen to the needs of the people of Clearwater and strengthen the community. Some of my greatest concerns are to protect the park spaces, advance cannabis legalization, create affordable housing, and streamline economic development.
As a new resident and younger person running for council, I bring a fresh perspective and vitality to the work and the issues. I have worked for the federal government before on renewable energy, but this will be my first time serving in politics, and I’m eager to learn from others.
I have a strong educational background, with a Bachelor’s degree from UBC in International Relations, and a Master’s in Political Sociology from the London School of Economics (UK). I currently work online with a group of thinkers on global problems, and this expertise will inform my approach on local issues.
I recently finished in the top six of the Golden Skull Adventure Race and Festival, and likewise I hope to finish in the top six councillors you elect. I am humbled by the competition, and am looking forward to serving with a strong council, whoever voters choose.
The most important issues for me are to maintain and improve infrastructure while being fiscally responsible, ensure that cannabis legalization enriches and benefits the community ASAP, to increase resources for parks and healthcare, and to improve job security and housing conditions for the people of Clearwater.
