Kamloops YMCA-YWCA is pleased to present the Power of Being a Girl conference, which will take place on Wednesday, Oct. 18 in Kamloops.

Now in its 12th year, this one-day conference is designed by girls for girls aged 12 to 14 years old to explore the challenges of growing up, in a fun and empowering way.

Come explore how social media influences how we see ourselves. Focusing on Instagram, Facebook and Snapchat, girls will discuss the psychology surrounding “likes” and the potential damaging impacts not getting likes can have on someone and where that is possibly rooted.

Girls will be a part of a Power of Being a Girl photo campaign as well. There will be discussion around, “Okay, this is happening. Let’s use this as a tool to empower us and send a greater message,” to help give girls a voice and be a part of something bigger than themselves. YMCA-YWCA Violence Against Women and Support Services offers this full-day conference at no cost.

Lunch will be included.

YWCA Canada’s Week Without Violence happens simultaneously from Oct. 16 to 22.

The Power Of Being A Girl conference will be held on Oct. 18 from 8:30 a.m. to 3 p.m. at the Tournament Capital Centre in Kamloops.

Participants are encouraged to register early to ensure a space. Call the Kamloops YMCA-YWCA at (250)-372-7725 or (250)-554-9622.
