Grizzly Jiu Jitsu school based in Barriee is making a name for itself in B.C.

The Pacific Northwest Open BCJJF Jiu-Jitsu Championship took place on Nov. 18 – 19 in Burnaby at BCIT which hosted a tournament for kids and adults of all skill levels.

The Champions Choice BJJ Fall Open also took place in Kamloops on Nov. 18.

Grizzly Jiu Jitsu martial arts school based in Barriere was on the road this weekend with three students competing and earning medals in both of these tournaments in Kamloops and Burnaby.

Jordee Beeds, is a 27-year-old husband and father from Birch Island, near Clearwater and is passionate about Jiu Jitsu, driving to Barriere to train on a regular basis. Beeds just competed in Kamloops on Saturday, Nov. 18 at the Champions Choice BJJ Fall Open and earned himself a silver medal in his Adult Gi category. Beeds, talks freely about his love for this form of martial arts saying, “I feel the healthiest I’ve ever been in my life and I feel so strong. It’s great to be progressing in the sport and making new connections during competitions.”

Two younger North Thompson students from Grizzly Jiu Jitsu travelled to Burnaby to compete in the Pacific Northwest BCJJF Jiu Jitsu Championship at BCIT, also on Nov. 18. The students, Mason Wohlgemuth and Jamie Stephens were accompanied by Coach Rod McLean with Mason bringing home a silver medal and Jamie winning a bronze. Both Mason and Jamie competed in the white belt Gi category.

Coach McLean is impressed with his student’s dedication saying, “We are so proud that Grizzly Jiu-Jitsu is quickly becoming known to the Jiu-Jitsu community in British Columbia. Our teams are working hard and showing great progress making a name for themselves and our school wherever they compete.”
