Those looking at getting their skates sharpened in Clearwater should know the location to do so has changed.
The former skate sharpening experts at Blade King have sold the equipment and the place to go to get your edges whetted is now Bigfoot Trading Co.
“We bought the machine and supplies from Blade King and should have it up and operational probably a week from now,” said Dennis Greffard, owner of Bigfoot Trading Co., earlier this week.
“I think it’ll be good; we’ll be adding in some basic hockey sticks and accessories—more laces, more skate tapes, more water bottles, all the accessories that go with hockey—so people can come in and browse while they get their skates sharpened.”
The previous owners, Jerry and Anita Riddell, are selling the skate sharpening equipment at Blade King after deciding to move and start the next chapter of their lives, according to an email provided by the “King and Queen” themselves.
“We’d like to thank all our customers and friends who have supported us over the last 23 years, it was a pleasure to serve you and get to know you all,” the email said.
“Clearwater was a great place to live and raise a family, and we will miss you.”
The King and Queen added they made sure to leave the business in local hands.
Greffard said skate sharpening is a valuable community service, especially with how busy the town’s arena gets, and it fits with what they do at Bigfoot Trading Co.
“It should make it easier for people to get their skates sharpened,” he said of the new location, which can be found at 205-365 Murtle Crescent.
“They can drop them off, go have a coffee, do some shopping, come back and pick them up; we anticipate being open on weekends, so it just makes it a little more accessible for people.”
