One week late for Sportsplex

The Sportsplex opened for the season one week later than usual, facilities supervisor Roger Mayer reported to District of Clearwater council

North Thomson Sportsplex opened for the season on Sept. 11, one week later than usual, facilities supervisor Roger Mayer reported to District of Clearwater council on Nov. 8.

Two hockey camps were offered in September. The skills camp was well attended. However, the girls/ladies camp was cancelled due to low registration.

Registration with Clearwater and District Minor Hockey is about the same as last year, and female hockey continues to grow.

Raft Mountain Skating Club number are down but the club is planning several events and initiatives to attract new members.

Raft River Elementary School’s parents’ advisory council has received $7,000 from Wells Gray Community Forest. The money will be used for a “learn to skate” program for Raft River and Vavenby schools. Mayer predicted the program should benefit both figure skating and minor hockey.

Participation in adult hockey has grown as the local job market improves and more players can find work in the Valley.

Wells Gray Curling Club has similar numbers as last season. The club plans on having three days per week of curling as well a several bonspiels.
