Walk for memories Jan. 29

Editor, The Times:

When an opportunity to help others arises in Clearwater, one can depend on cooperation and support from a wide range of community groups.

Recently, Liz Gilbertson from Barriere gave a convincing talk to a variety of folks in Clearwater about the benefit of supporting the Alzheimer Society of BC. She coordinates the annual Investors Group Walk For Memories in Barriere. This is a provincewide initiative to raise money to support the Alzheimer’s Society and it is held Jan. 29 in many communities across B.C.

A committee was struck and it was decided to organize a Walk for Memories here in Clearwater.

Now you can imagine that the first reaction to doing a fundraising walk in the middle of winter is, “It’s too cold.” “It’s too slippery.”

When the Elks Lodge was approached and asked if we could rent their hall so folks could have an indoor place to walk, they immediately said, “Yes. And there is no charge.”

With an outside walking route planned from the Elks Hall around Lodge Drive, there will be ample opportunity for walkers of all ages to enjoy a morning of exercise and conversation while supporting a worthy cause. Folks from Clearwater Rotary Club and Wells Gray Seniors Society are currently putting up posters and distributing pledge forms. Working together brings out the spirit of the season and that says everything about the best of small community living.
