Thomas vows to involve residents

Candidate for Wells Gray Country (TNRD Area A) commits to seeking more public input on decisions

Editor, The Times:

I believe in broad community input. As your Thompson-Nicola Regional District director, I would encourage you to get even more involved in your regional district. For example, do you know whom the Services Committee members are that speak on behalf of your community (be that East Blackpool, Blackpool, Upper Clearwater, Vavenby or Birch Island)? Do you regularly phone them and discuss the things that are dear to your heart?

Do you phone the current regional director and make suggestions? Do you know when and where the Services Committee meetings are held? Do you attend?

The regional director is your employee - you pay the wages and the expenses for this person.  As your elected representative I would be very much aware of this....

Indeed, as a volunteer in this valley, I already work on your behalf in many areas, be that in the creation of the North Thompson Food Action website (which will link producers and people who like to eat local product); speaking up about trash on the Public Advisory to the Implementation of the Solid Waste Management; or encouraging people in local business by giving them suggestions on places to find local information or how to network or educate themselves on a particular topic.

I am offering to take the knowledge I have gained from working shoulder-to-shoulder with you for over 30 years and move this to the next level. I am offering to be your voice at the regional district level.
