Recent recall efforts fail

The following letter from Chad Moats, organizer of the campaign to recall MLA Terry Lake, was sent recently to those involved

Editor's note: The following letter from Chad Moats, organizer of the campaign to recall MLA Terry Lake, was sent recently to those involved. Local campaigner Wayne Russell forwarded it to the Times, along with a big thanks to the people of Clearwater and surrounding areas.

Editor, The Times:

Hey everyone!

Although we didn't "succeed" in recalling Terry Lake over the HST, we have definitely made a big splash in Kamloops and shown the BC Liberals that we mean business. We have seen the referendum moved to June and made legally binding. These are both major victories for our campaign. Once we win the referendum, they will be forced to listen to us and the HST will be gone.

We had very strong campaign! Thanks to all of you for the long hard hours put into it.

As of this moment, our signature count is 10,027 with a few more left to collect.

This is huge accomplishment equal to 26 per cent of all registered voters and 52 per cent of those that voted in 2009. These are significant numbers and represent a massive portion of the electorate in Kamloops-North Thompson. Terry Lake will not get re-elected.

The office is closed but some are still collecting signatures. Please call me at 250-376-6186 to have those sheets collected. There have also been some items left at the office. I will be compiling a list ASAP but if you are looking for anything specific, call me. Sorry Jim, no water bottles.

Thanks all, it's been great and hope to see you in May for referendum prep.
