Old enough to understand what is a church

Is the "church" a building, a religion or is the "church" people who believe that Jesus is whom He claims to be?

Is the "church" a building, a religion or is the "church" people who believe that Jesus is whom He claims to be?

Not too long ago, while I sat in our living room after dinner, my little three-year-old granddaughter sidled up to me and asked, "What are you Gramma?"

"I am a born-again, Bible believing, recent creation Christian," I answered. She looked at me a long minute - and then announced, "Me too!" and off she hopped.

"That was quick," I thought. She had been listening to her older sister reading The Little Golden Bible to Poppa.

"Whom do men say that I the Son of man am? Jesus asked and then, "But whom say ye that I am?"

"... the Christ, the son of the living God," Peter answered. (St. Matthew 16:13-16) Jesus always referred to himself as the Son of the Man and or the Son of God - never the son of Mary. When he said, "... upon this rock I will build my church," He was identifying Himself as God. Paul - inspired by God - wrote, "... and that rock was Christ." (I Corinthians 10:4) The rock in which God's church, the Bride of Christ, is built is Jesus himself.

My little three-year-old granddaughter likes to "go to church". She can wear her pink dress and twirl in the aisle during the singing of the worship songs. But - is she old enough to understand - to decide, "Me too"? Only God knows our hearts. Only Jesus knows for sure whether a little three-year-old girl can be his church "that quick!"
