Mayor encourages community members to run for office

For those that would be interested in learning more about the capacity of mayor or council members and the responsibilities that come with these positions, there will be an information session at the District of Clearwater on Oct. 12 at 6:30 p.m.

Editor, The Times:

I would like to take this opportunity to thank the members of council for their years of service to the community. Over these past four years, I have watched a dedicated team develop good strong foundations for future opportunities, commit to a fiscal plan that sets Clearwater ready for new opportunities that includes responsible, sustainable and balanced growth. These are exciting times.

To continue on with the good work and planning of our council, I am writing to not only extend my appreciation to a team of excellent people, but to encourage members from our community to step forward and run for public office. The work is challenging but very rewarding. You can speak to anyone who has served on council; they will speak passionately about any number of projects that became near and dear to their heart and why they were proud to represent the citizens of the North Thompson Valley.

I would also ask people to mark their calendars and make note of Nov. 19 and commit to getting out and vote. There will be an advance poll Nov. 9. Community development comes from everyone. Encourage potential candidates to come forward, lend your support and collectively, create a strong, vibrant community for all.

For those that would be interested in learning more about the capacity of mayor or council members and the responsibilities that come with these positions, there will be an information session at the District of Clearwater on Oct. 12 at 6:30 p.m. People are invited to come, ask questions, learn about the diversity of the positions as well as understand the various committees mayor and council will serve on. Nomination papers are available at the District Office and must be filed by Oct. 14 by 4 p.m.

In closing, it has been a privilege to serve as mayor for Clearwater. I have been fortunate to work with a talented team. Together, we have created excellent relationships that will have positive influence on Clearwater and area in times to come. Thanks to those council members who have served, to those that have chosen to run again and a deep appreciation to those willing to step forward and continue the process.

Mayor John Harwood,

Clearwater, B.C.
