Gateway Relay back in motion

Wells Gray Outdoor Club of Clearwater is reviving the Wilderness Gateway Relay

Editor, The Times:

Wells Gray Outdoor Club of Clearwater is reviving the Wilderness Gateway Relay.

This event was last held in September of 2002. Plans for the race of 2003 were cancelled because of wildfires. It's taken a few years to get back to it but here we are. This year's event will be held on Sept. 17.

The Wilderness Gateway Relays is a fun cycling/running event that starts at Clearwater Lake Campground in Wells Gray Park, follows the Clearwater Valley Road (and many side trails) to end at Dutch Lake in Clearwater.

In 2002 23 teams with seven participants each took part in the event. Participation in this event was not limited to Clearwater but had teams coming from all around the central Interior.

The entry fee for the Relay is $300 per team. This money will help offset the expenses of insurance, prizes, advertising and T-shirts for participants.

This is going to be a great race and we plan to make it an annual event. The benefits to our community will be many. It will bring people to our town and showcase the community and the park. It will be a wonderful event for families and promote fitness and healthy living to all.
