A heartfelt thanks to the community of Clearwater

Our family, who gathered to celebrate Lucas Cowie’s life last Saturday, is sending heartfelt thanks to the community of Clearwater and beyond for everything it has done to enrich Lucas’s life, and also for supporting all of us through these trying days.

A special thanks to Bert Walker and family for their wisdom in trying times such as these. Many years ago Bert bravely spoke out after the passing of his son, Jeff, and encouraged us not to avoid, but to embrace our community members through these emotional events in our lives.

Our community is loving, strong, and resilient.

This community has elected two fine mayors who both exemplify these values. Twenty odd years ago Mayor John Harwood, and his wife Melanie, generously lent Darlene and I their seven passenger van to take the seven members of our family to the West Edmonton Mall for our first blended family adventure.

More recently Mayor Merlin Blackwell created a Wells Grey work adventure week for Lucas and I to spend several days together at Clearwater and Murtle Lakes where we were hosted and boated about by my brother “Uncle Chris.”

I will treasure the memory of these two events for the rest of my life. These two men “get” family and community, and with your support and positive energy will continue to move our community forward to new levels of success.

To show their support of Amber (Lucas’s sister) her fellow writers suggested they celebrate the release of her first novel “Rapid Falls” while perhaps she could not.

However, our family and community were proud and privileged to see Amber celebrate her book release standing beside her Grandma Joan Jacobsen who at the same time was celebrating her 90th birthday surrounded by family and community friends.

A special thanks to Lucas’s buddies who have been sharing their memories with us. Any special photos you would like to forward to us will be put together for our family, friends, Lucas’s three children, and their mother.

Deryl and Darlene Cowie and family,

Clearwater, B.C.
