It is with sadness we announce the passing of Wayne Hystad on October 7, 2020 with his family by his side at Dr. Helmcken Memorial Hospital.
Wayne is survived by his loving wife Betsy of 59 years and daughters Terry (John), and Shirley. Wayne is also survived by his brother Gerald and sister Elaine. His grandchildren, Ashley, Eric, Cody, Tyler and Steven and great-granddaughters Karissa and Kylie, who will dearly miss their "gramps". Wayne was pre-deceased by his parents, Hilda and Joe and brothers, Len (Betty), Ken (Cecile), Gord (Daisy), and sister, Lois (Bill).
Arthur Wayne Hystad was born in Saskatchewan and moved to Vancouver at the age of 6. He came to Clearwater with his parents in 1955 when they took over the management of the Camp 2 Cookhouse. It didn't take Wayne long before he started with Clearwater Timber Products in the mill.
Wayne enjoyed outdoor work and it didn't take him long to get a job driving logging truck for Sherman Colborne. "24 Wayne" eventually bought the truck and drove until he retired (the first time!) after 40 years. Not one to sit still, he continued working until he and Betsy moved to Evergreen's Ed Buck Manor in 2019.
Wayne enjoyed many a game of cards, dice and rounds on the golf course. He will be remembered by many for spending summers on the boat, at the lake with his family, his days drag racing the quarter mile, snowmobile racing, flying the hang glider and his fish "stories". He was known for his big bear hugs, and he will be missed by all who knew him.
Wayne's family will be forever grateful to Dr. Soles, nurses, Tasha, Linda, Addie and Jade and all the staff at Dr. Helmcken Memorial Hospital. A family gathering will be held in spring 2021.
