FRED STEIN

January 8, 1951 – March 18, 2010

Frederick Ernest Stein of Birch Island, BC, was born on January 8, 1951 in Big River Saskatchewan. He passed away peacefully and suddenly at home on March 18, 2010, after experiencing heart complications.

Fred is survived by his loved ones, Frances Kirk, His four children Cheryl (Bill), Lorraine (Mickel), Edward (Kate) and Kimberly, and his 9 grandchildren, Lindsay, Dane, Justin, Dakota, Samantha, Dayton, Eliana, Mercedes and Gabriel. He was predeceased by his parents David and Ruth Stein, his nephew Roderick Klassen and his three best furry friends Prince, Lady and Sadie.

Fred spent his childhood years in Big River SK, with his parents, his sister Lillian and his brother Phillip. He was involved in the local cadets for several years and enjoyed going on school trips - especially the one to Toronto and Niagara Falls. After finishing school Fred moved out to Kamloops, BC and later Vavenby, BC. In Vavenby he started to work at the mill, where he stayed and worked for the next 30 plus years.

Most of Fred's favourite activities centered around the great outdoors. He enjoyed quadding, horseback riding and hunting. He even went on a couple of cattle drives. Fred also looked forward to camping with friends and family up at the homesteads, as well as organizing Paper Chases. As a "founding father" and "trailblazer" of "The Beach" he was fond of BBQ's and wiener roasts there with friends.

At home he enjoyed working on models, particularly planes. This fed into his fascination with aviation history. His favourite planes were the Canuck and the Vodoo. This was an interest he shared with his brother and son.

The funeral for Fred was held Friday March 26, 2010 at the Royal Canadian Legion in Clearwater, BC. Interment followed at Riverview Cemetery, Clearwater, BC.

He will be greatly missed by all who knew and loved him.
