Solveig Graffunder

Solveig Graffunder (nee Johnson) passed away peacefully on October 28, 2024 just a few days shy of her 95th birthday. Solveig was born on October 31, 1929. She was the only daughter of Johan and Lina Teveldal. She was proud of her Norwegian heritage. Solveig's entire life was spent in the North Thompson Valley. In 1951 she married Alfred Graffunder to eventually raise 5 children on Peavine Ranch.

Solveig's daily life was rich with farm life, raising children, providing hospitality, active in the local community club, active in the Vavenby church, a member of the local Lions club and worked with the valley's community calendar for countless years. She volunteered in many community activities and was often secretary or treasurer or both. Solveig believed in a good education and was always very active in her children's school events. Mom was a somewhat shy but happy person throughout her life. She laughed easily and had a great sense of humour. She loved music and in high school and beyond she could be found singing, playing her accordion or steel guitar and she loved a good strong cup of coffee.

Solveig was predeceased by her parents Johan and Lina and her Uncle and Aunt, Ole and Emma Johnson. Also predeceased by her grandson Dustin (1990); husband Alfred (2005); her daughter Wendy (2008). Solveig is survived by Linda Best of Calgary, Bernie (Robin) Graffunder of Clearwater, Hilda (Allen) Zietsov of Clearwater; and George (Charlene) Graffunder of Calgary. Solveig is also survived by 18 grandchildren and 11 great grandchildren.

The family wishes to express their gratitude to the staff at Overlander Residential Care for their care and kindness.

A celebration of her life will be held at Clearwater Christian Church (1010 School Road) on November 9 at 10:00 AM. Reception to follow. Graveside service at 2:00 PM (Riverview Cemetery, Grant Road, Clearwater BC). In lieu of flowers donations can be made on her behalf to Clearwater Hospice Society (clearwaterhospice91@gmail.com)
