On Friday, April 15, 2011 Reverend Canon John (Jack) Phelps passed away peacefully at Kamloops at the age of 83 years. He is survived by his two daughters Sharon (Bob) of Kamloops and Marilyn (Gerald) of Clearwater and three sons John (Susan) of Penticton, Greg (Charleen) of Courtenay and Rob (Karen) of Kamloops; eight grandchildren, Jenna, Ryan (Kevin), Chelsea (Stacy), Jason, Roo (Mike), Tiana, Shelby and Zoe and other family members.

He was predeceased by his wife Mary and his six siblings.

Jack was born in Nokomis, Saskatchewan in 1928, the youngest of seven children. His family moved to Lytton, B.C. in 1936 where he met and married Mary Lawes in 1951. His various careers took them throughout B.C., from Pouce Coupe with the B.C. Police to Nelson and Comox with the Fish and Game Branch and to Kamloops with Corrections B.C.

They settled in Kamloops in 1963 with their five children. In 1983, Jack answered his true calling and following in his father's footsteps became an ordained Anglican Minister. Jack ministered to the people of the Lytton and Lillooet areas and the North Thompson Valley before retiring to Kamloops. Jack continued to devote his life to serving his church and the community including the ANAVETS, the Legion and the Air Force Association. His family takes comfort in knowing that Jack has returned to God and his beloved Mary.

Funeral Service was held on Thursday, April 21, 2011 at 2:00 p.m. in St. Paul's Anglican Cathedral with The Very Reverend Louise Peters officiating.
