Brother Ray passed away in his home on April 7, 2008. He was 91 years of age. Born Raymond Dixon Hitchcock in Hartford, Connecticut on June 12, 1916, he was known to all as Brother Ray. He came to the North Thompson Valley in 1962, and worked at the planer mill and at the Archibald Saw Mill. He also built a couple of houses in the valley. Known for his religious faith and for the bees he kept, Brother Ray also loved flowers and his whole garden.

Raymond Hitchcock is survived by his children, Ruth Davis of Lakeland, Florida, Philip Hitchcock of Keene, New Hampshire, Ken Hitchcock, also of Keene, NH; sisters Beverly Mackin of Brattleboro, Vermont and Marvel (Ralph) Clark of Sterling, Colorado; sister-in-law Betty Hitchcock of Camdenton, Missouri; plus several grandchildren, nieces and nephews. The family wishes to express its appreciation for the care and support provided by Brother Ray’s many friends in the North Thompson Valley over the many years, as well as during recent weeks when Brother Ray’s health started to falter.

A Memorial Service for Raymond Hitchcock was held in the banquet room at Wells Gray Inn, Clearwater, BC, on Sunday, April 20, 2008.
