Margaret Lucy (Hanna) Hess born in Quanah, Texas, May 31, 1927, passed away on Dec. 23, 2003, at the age of 76 years.
She was predeceased by her husband of 50 years Fred Jay in 1999, her mother and father and one niece, and special son James P. Hoover. She leaves to mourn her children Tina (Ron) Colborne of Clearwater, B.C., Freida (Andi) Stefanescu of Romania, Theresa Gyger of Kamloops, Peter Hess (Juanice) of Durango, Colorado, Fred Hess, Jr. (Heidi) of Clearwater, B.C., nine grandchildren, 17 great-grandchildren, her brother John (Rowena) Hanna of Scottsdale, Arizona., Mary Ann (Frank) Leatherwood of Grand Junction, Colorado, and Anita (Leon) Ebright of Lethbridge, Alberta, and numerous nieces and nephews. Margaret also leaves several special sons, Ernie Schaff (Judy) of Delta, Colorado, Ted (Kathy) Sooter, Tim Penny (Edie) and Sterling Schaff of Durango.
Peggy grew up in Telluride, Colorado. She graduated from high school and began a nursing career as a nursing cadet at St. Paul’s Hospital in Dallas, Texas. She married Fred in 1947 in Telluride, Colorado. Peggy and Fred made many moves from Los Angeles, California, Grand Junction, Colorado, Montrose, Colorado, Ootsa Lake, B.C., Clearwater, B.C., Squamish, B.C., Edmonton, Alta., Penticton, B.C. and finally Kamloops, B.C.
Peggy was active in many organizations throughout her life. She was an active member of the Catholic Women’s League. She was instrumental in developing a bandage group in her Penticton parish for Canadian Food for Children. She was a life member of 3rd. Marine Corps Div. Association.
Mom loved Dad, nursing her siblings, children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren. A prayer service was held on Monday Dec. 29, 2003 from Our Lady of Perpetual Help Catholic Church where a Mass of Christian Burial was held on Tuesday, Dec. 30, 2003.
