Margaret Beryl Oakey (nee Switzer)

April 17, 1922 – November 7, 2006


The Switzer family moved to the Blue River area of the North Thompson Valley when Margaret was seven.

She left to begin a teaching career in rural B.C. towns including Beaton where she met her husband Shirley Oakey.


They returned to Blue River in 1951 where they raised a family and lived until 1966 before moving to Quesnel. Margaret continued teaching another 16 years in Quesnel, until her retirement.


In 1992 they built their retirement home on the Shuswap Lake and moved to Anglemont.


Both Margaret and Shirley were avid outdoors enthusiasts and spent their retirement years, traveling in their camper, skiing, hunting, fishing and hiking.


She was predeceased by Shirley in 1999, and is survived by her daughters, Lucille, Lois and Barbara (Dave) and grandchildren Jennifer, Melissa and Terran.


There will be a service to celebrate her life at Shorncliffe, 5847 Medusa, Sechelt on Dec. 9, 2006 at 2 p.m.
