In loving memory ~
We are sad to announce the recent passing our Mom, Louisa Capostinsky.
Louisa was born in Matsqui, B.C. and moved to the North Thompson Valley as a teenager with her parents William and Winnifred Sedgwick and siblings (Nancy, William and John).
She raised her family in Vavenby with her husband Harry; and may be remembered by some as a Mom that was a pack leader for the local Boy Scouts and helped initiate a Logger Sports Day and later volunteered at the local thrift shop.
She worked at Vavenby Elementary School and later at Clearwater Secondary School where she loved the opportunity to engage with the many students that attended during her years working in the office. Louisa had many interests, she spent three seasons cooking in a Cariboo camp in the N.W.T. where she made lasting friendships that led to a memorable trip to Cambridge Bay and Gjoa Haven, Nunavut. She attended Culinary Conferences in New York and New Orleans.
She enjoyed hosting dinner parties and cooking classes in her home and spent many years perfecting her Ginger Snap cookies! She traveled to Australia, Europe, and Hawaii; but always loved returning to her rural property where she gardened and coveted the solitude and peace of living with nature. A tree was always worth saving, a friend was always welcome and family was everything. She would feel the most happiness with family and would jump in the Jimmy and drive anywhere to see her grandchildren; a road trip was always an adventure. She was known to welcome strangers and share her time and space with many that crossed her path. She was an example of welcoming warmth, had a strongly independent spirit and a genuine curiosity and interest in people.
Louisa will be missed by her children William (Gillian), Steve (Wilna), Keith (Madeleine), Maria (Larry), and Nancy (Bob). Her grandchildren Dylan, Hunter, Alexis, Julia, Madeline, Naomi, Diane, Victoria, Tiffiny, Stephanie, and Jason along with their partners. Great-grandchildren Zara, Parker, Lucas, Shylo, Haiden, Elijah, Nia, Brody, Addisyn, Emmeline, Beatrix, Ceasar, Randi, Drew, Lochlen, Mac, and Nolen; along with many nieces and nephews.
She is survived by her brother John Sedgwick (Gerrie) and predeceased by her sister Nancy Hambrook, brothers Jack Sedgwick and William Sedgwick (Eileen) and nephew Willie Sedgwick.
