In Loving Memory of Lorraine Florence Magill

August 10, 1951 – April 22, 2007

Lorraine Magill passed away suddenly at the age of 55 on April 22, 2007 in the comfort of her home in Clearwater, BC.

Born in New Westminster, BC on August 10, 1951, she is survived by her loving husband and soul mate, Don Magill of Clearwater; son Rowan Sinclair of Pitt Meadows, BC; son John Magill of Dawson Creek, BC; brother John Sinclair of Richmond BC; brother Terry Sinclair of Vancouver BC; and many other family and friends.

Lorraine’s childhood was challenging but she used her courage, perseverance and the support of the people that loved her to make it through and overcame many difficulties. She was truly blessed with the spirit of adventure.

Her first was heading out on her own at the age of 16 to raise her first born son, Rowan. The two formed an amazing team and survived many hardships together … something that truly bonded them as mother and son, forming a unique connection for life.

Her next, and some might say, biggest adventure, was … marrying Don Magill on June 28, 1980. They honeymooned on the Bowron Lakes and enjoyed exploring northern rivers navigating big standing waves and terrifying chutes in their trusty canoe. In Dawson Creek she and her husband supported adult students with behavioral and mental handicaps. Her skills, empathy and dedication helped to enrich the lives of numerous students and adults.

Her next adventure was the unexpected arrival of her second blessing, son John. The happy parents spent many fulfilling years of parenthood together. The family enjoyed many amazing yearly gatherings with family and friends including some dandy Irish Breakfasts put on by Lorraine!

In the early 1990s she was diagnosed with Associative Identity Disorder and fought the biggest battle of her life on a day to day basis. This involved her being separated from her family for extended periods of time as she dedicated herself to hours of therapeutic reflection and counseling at the Hillcrest Centre in Grand Prairie.

Lorraine’s last adventure was a three month backpacking trek through Southeast Asia with husband Don. Even the beggars appreciated her good will and spirit of generosity. Among her adventures, she rode the waves of the chaotic floating markets of the Mekong Delta as well as the back of an elephant.

It is a comfort to all that she was able to realize her lifelong dream of travel to foreign and exotic lands before taking her final journey.

Lorraine’s courage, tenderness and strength of spirit were an inspiration to all who truly knew her. She will be deeply missed by all the loving and loyal friends and family she has left behind. The family would like to thank all friends and neighbours for their tremendous support.

A private family gathering to remember and celebrate Lorraine’s life took place in Clearwater on Saturday, April 28, 2007. Funeral arrangements entrusted to North Thompson Funeral Services, Clearwater, BC 1-250-674-3030.
