Leo E. Kingelin

September 27, 1930 – June 5, 2010

Leo Kingelin passed away suddenly in Clearwater, BC on June 5, 2010. He was 79 years of age. He is survived by his daughter Lynne Frizzle (Pat) of Clearwater, son Ken Kingelin of Thailand and son Rob Kingelin (Valerie) of Kelowna, granddaughter Kari Frizzle (Bal) of Squamish and grandsons Craig Frizzle (Robyn) of Maple Ridge, Kurtis Kingelin, of Kelowna and Jeffery Kingelin of Kelowna and by his great granddaughters, Kaya Risma and Brennyn Risma of Squamish. He also left behind two sisters Dot (Paul) Spelay and Myra Spelay, and his best friend Rose Kachuk. Leo was predeceased by his parents Kalle and Signe Kingelin and his wife of 48 years, Vivian.

A resident of the North Thompson Valley for nearly 50 years, Leo took great pride in his work at Clearwater Timber Products and he claimed he made some “damn fine roads” in his day. Leo volunteered for many years in the community. He was a member of the Clearwater Lions for nearly 40 years. Many community residents will remember Leo behind the counter of the Lions trailer handing out hot dogs and hamburgers, or behind the bar at many different functions, from weddings to ball tournaments. Leo coached numerous ball teams over the years and he created a skating rink out in the yard every winter for all the neighbourhood kids to come and enjoy. In his retirement you could see Leo carpet bowling, playing darts or crib. He loved nothing better than to claim he “skunked” someone that day. In his later years Leo was slowing down but he still liked to get out and “go for coffee” where he got to visit friends. Leo will be sadly missed by all his family and friends.

Friends and family gathered to pay tribute to Leo at the Royal Canadian Legion, Clearwater, BC on Saturday, June 12, 2010. Afterwards, many went to the Elks Hall to enjoy a pancake breakfast—which was one of Leo’s favourite outings. Arrangements entrusted to North Thompson Funeral Services, Box 2404 RR2, Clearwater, BC, V0E 1N0, 250-674-3030.
