Kerry James Walchuk

1960 - 2004

It is with great sadness and regret that the family announces the sudden passing of our father, son, brother, uncle, and friend.

Kerry is survived by his son, Matthew, his parents, Joe and Stella Walchuk, his sister Charlene (John), his brother Barry (Gina), his nieces Laura and Melissa, his nephews Dustin and Devin, and many relatives and friends.

Kerry had been a pilot for the past 14 years. For the past nine years he was employed with a division of Erickson Air Crane, where he became an S64 Captain. Kerry was well known and highly respected in his industry. His job took him to many different parts of the world, including the 9/11 disaster site and as close to home as the Kelowna wildfires last summer.

Kerry and his French co-pilot passed away on Aug 26, 2004, while fighting fire on the Island of Corsica, off the coast of France. On Aug 30, 2004, a ceremony was held in Corsica where both pilots were awarded the French Medal of Bravery and Honor. His father Joe and nephew Dustin were present to accept this medal in Kerry’s honor.

Kerry loved living in Clearwater. He enjoyed fishing, snowmobiling, his vintage car and spending time with his family and friends. We all knew him for his sense of humor, teasing and his practical jokes. We will miss him dearly!

The family is very grateful for all the words of comfort and we thank all of our family and friends for all your love and support during this very difficult time. We wish to express a very special thank you to Paul Mavrinac and the employees of Erickson Air Crane.
