JOHNSTON

1920-2006

On November 14, 2006, Jessie Elizabeth "Betty" Johnston of Clearwater BC

passed away peacefully at Dr. Helmcken Memorial Hospital. She was 86 years

of age.

Betty was born in Vancouver, BC. She moved to Clearwater in 1938 to begin her first teaching position in the one room Star Lake School in Blackpool, BC.

Over the years, she taught school in several Clearwater area schools and was Principal of Dutch Lake School. She was dedicated to teaching, to her students, and many past and present Clearwater residents will remember her as a great teacher. Betty was an active member of the Clearwater United Church and the United Church Women for many years.

She remained a loyal member of the congregation until her death.

Betty married Stan Johnston and together they had five daughters. Stan and

Betty were members of the Clearwater Shuffling Shoes Square Dance Club for

many years. Betty enjoyed life to the fullest as she and Stan loved to camp

and fish; she was often the one to catch the largest and the most fish.

Betty loved to play the piano, knit, and read. In 1992, she received a Canadian Volunteer Award.

Sadly in 2001, she lost her life partner and beloved husband, Stan.

Betty is survived by five daughters; Betsy (Wayne) Hystad, Penny (Lorne)

McCaskill, Yvonne (Gary) Douglas, Linda (Don) McClure and Sue (Wade)Carpenter; 10 grandchildren; 14 great grandchildren; sisters-in-law Doris

Johnston and Florence Nelson, plus numerous nieces and nephews.

A celebration of Betty's life will be held on Saturday, December 2, 2006 at

12:00 noon in the Community Baptist Church, Clearwater BC.

Interment will follow at Riverview Cemetery, Clearwater.
