October 6, 1964 ~ May 7, 2008
After a lengthy and
brave struggle with cancer,
James Van Engelen of
Blackpool, B.C., passed
away at Dr. Helmcken Memorial
Hospital, Clearwater,
BC, on May 7, 2008.
He was 43 years of age.
Left to mourn James’
passing are Joanne, his loving
wife of 23 years; sons
Mark (Brandy) and Jesse;
daughter Kerry (Mitch);
grandchildren Angel and
Cera; parents Anna and
Arnold; sisters Trudy,
Anne and Yvonne; brothers
Francis, John, Arn, Jack
and Chris; plus numerous
nieces, nephews and many
friends. James was predeceased
by his nephews,
Robert Abday and Carson
Van Engelen.
James was licensed inter-
provincially as a body
mechanic. Many people
knew James, however,
as the friendly fl ag man
who frequently fl ashed the
peace sign to passing motorists
in the North Thompson
Valley and throughout
BC. He loved nature, wild
strawberry jam, fi shing and
he loved his family. Most
of all, James loved his soul
mate and his best friend,
Joanne.
A Memorial Service for
James Van Engelen will be
held on Monday, May 12,
2008 at 11a.m. at the Clearwater
Community Baptist
Church, 24 East Old North
Thompson Highway, Clearwater,
BC. A reception will
follow in the banquet room
at the Wells Gray Inn.
