Irene "Reenie" Neilson

In loving memory ~

Irene "Reenie" Neilson (née Joneson) was born in 1945, to Dorothy Evelyn Shipton and Reuben Alfred Joneson. Reenie grew up in Clearwater in a loving family with her brothers and sisters. Her family was well-known in those days for their Christmas generosity, and the holidays were always significant to her.

Reenie was a mother first and raised four sons: Shad, Kelly, Wade, and Lane. She was always engaged and proud of her sons, extending her parents' tradition of joyous holidays and family get-togethers. She also loved her extended family dearly, traveling to Wetaskiwin, Drayton Valley, and the United States to visit her many sisters. Bud, her brother, and Reenie stayed close through the years, with Bud visiting for lunch every Tuesday. Reenie first embarked on a career as a social worker, then transitioned to teaching special needs students, and finally became a caregiver to her family members in need.

Reenie loved the outdoors. Her family was filled with stories of adventure and mis-adventure as she boldly forged her own path in both the wilds of Canada and her own life. Reenie was active in the church, supporting summer camps, church events, and community outreach. She additionally was also active in the Canadian Legion, becoming a Silver Mom.

Reenie was well known for her passion for gardening, birding, and hockey. She would spend her days tending her yard and watching the birds that flocked in. As a Canucks fan, she always looked forward to sitting with Howard, her husband, cheering for the home team.

She remained dynamic, resolute, and lovingly devoted to her family and friends her entire life.

A Celebration of Life will be held on June 15th at the Clearwater Christian Church at 1 p.m. The Celebration of Life will also be livestreamed through Clearwater Christian Church. Further details can be found on clearwatercc.ca
