Inez Marie Elliot

April 26, 1918 ~ November 11, 2008

Inez Elliot (née Bennett) a long-time resident of Sunshine Valley, Clearwater, BC, died suddenly at Doctor Helmcken Memorial Hospital, after suffering a stoke. She was 90 years of age. Inez is survived by sons John (Doreen) Elliot, and Dennis (Sherry) Elliot; daughters Pat (Harold) Ritchie, and Roberta (David) Parsons; grandchildren, Gordon (Rachel) Elliot, Wade (Tina) Elliot, Susan (Glen) Drechsler, Lorna (Lance) Mattenley, James (Michelle) Romeo, Debbi (Al) Smart, Teresa Ritchie, Bindi Ritchie, Teena (Derek) Quinn, Ty (Cheryl) Parsons, Charlene (Guy) Hand, Tom (Michelle) Parsons, Kurtis Elliot, Tera (Mark) Elliot, numerous great-grandchildren, and some great-great-grandchildren. Inez was predeceased by her father and mother Ivan and Iva; husband Gordon Elliot; son Ken Elliot; daughter Josie Romeo; brother and sister Gordon and Edna; and by her sisters-in-law Mary and Marge.

Inez was born in Kirriemuir, Alberta. She arrived in Clearwater in May 1932, coming from Alberta with her family. After her marriage to Gordon, they homesteaded in Sunshine Valley in 1934, building a log home for their family and extended family. Gordon passed away in 1973, it was then that she learned to drive for the first time in her life. As with everything else she did, she tackled it with courage. A loving mother and grandmother, she thrived on family gatherings, and was a wonderful cook. In the early days she baked 14 loaves of bread every other day to feed the large number who gathered around the old family table. Her fudge was legendary! A very social person she loved to attend the old time dances that Clearwater was famous for in days gone by. After her husband's passing she went to work planting trees for the forestry, babysitting, or what ever she could find to make a living. Sometime later she landed a job with the Clearwater school district as a janitor until she retired. She was generous with everyone but herself, always doing without to give to others. The amount of love and care she poured into her family will long be remembered. Over the years she gave a home to many needing a place to stay and treated them like family. Her friends will remember the many nights of playing cards and laughter. Good food, music, and friends, were always a part of the Elliot home.

A strong believer in the power of prayer, we all knew that when she prayed things happened. Many times her children or grandchildren would ask her to pray about something for them, because they knew she got answers. Her strong will kept her going when most of us would have given up.

A memorial service for Inez Elliot took place on Friday, November 15, 2008 at the Wells Gray Inn, Clearwater, BC. Interment followed at Riverview Cemetery, Clearwater. Arrangements entrusted to North Thompson Funeral Services, Clearwater, BC 250-674-3030.
