May 19, 1939 - October 19, 2020
Greg Dalton, Clearwater resident from 1974 - 1998, passed away peacefully on October 19th, 2020 at age 81 with his wife, Sharon, and daughter, Jessica, by his side. Greg was born on May 19th, 1939 in Summerside, PEI to James Edward Dalton and Helen Perkins Holland. He was one of 14 children. In the late 1950s and early 1960s, he followed some of his siblings, moving around Ontario, Quebec, and PEI, taking up different jobs. In 1966, never having been on one before, Greg bought a motorcycle and drove all the way west. Captivated by the mountains, he decided to stay. After living in Richmond and working at the mill and the airport for a few years, Greg married Ferne Bell. They followed her mother, who was the chef at Wells Gray Inn, and settled in Clearwater around 1974. Their daughter Jessica was born in 1977, and as a family they enjoyed all that the North Thompson Valley had to offer for many years. Greg worked the night shift at the hotel until he moved to Bellingham, Washington in 1998 and married Sharon, a fellow canoe enthusiast. It was around this time that he was diagnosed with prostate cancer, which he battled for the next 21 years. Greg will be remembered for his enduring positivity; no matter what he was going through, he never complained and always looked on the bright side. His sense of humour and adventure are what his friends and family will remember most. He always had a twinkle in his eye and an adventure he was looking forward to. We take comfort in the fact that Greg's was a life well lived.
Those wishing to honor his memory are invited to donate to prostate cancer research, or simply pause to enjoy a mindful moment of appreciation for your surroundings the next time you are canoeing or cross-country skiing.
