Garnet Adelbert (Gary) Dickson

Garnet Adelbert (Gary) Dickson passed away peacefully on Sept. 9, 2002 in Nanaimo Regional General Hospital, ending a short battle with cancer.

Gary was born in Jamaica, immigrated to England, and later Canada. He served as a minister in Kitimaat Village, the North Thompson pastoral charge and Whonnock and Webster’s Corner United Churches. He was also the chaplain at Allouette River Correctional Centre and Twin Maples Correctional Centre. He was dedicated, compassionate and loving.

Gary is survived by Marge, his loving wife of 44 years, son Gary (Lisa), three daughters Joy, (Rick Becker), Tracey (Loris DePaoli), Rita, and three grandsons Jace, Jordan and Nico. He will also be missed by his brother Victor (Gladys), two sisters Clara (Odo Bassey and family), Ritta (Odili and family), and many other relatives of whom he was very fond.

Funeral services are to be held at 1 p.m. on Saturday, Sept. 21, 2002 at Saint Andrew’s United Church (222 Street and Dewdney Trunk Road, Maple Ridge, B.C.). In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Webster’s Corner United Church or Whonnock United Church, Box 61, Whonnock, B.C. V2W 1V9. Thanks to many family friends for support during Gary’s illness, Dr. Blackwood (Mission), The Centre for Integrated Healing (Vancouver), and special thanks to Dr. Love and the team on the palliative care ward at Nanaimo Regional General Hospital, as well as Nanaimo Hospice.
