Bernard (Barney) Edward Jones passed away peacefully in his home at Evergreen Acres in Clearwater BC on August 2, 2008. He was born on September 4, 1920 at Michel BC to Isaac and Lil Jones. Barney served with the Westminster Regiment of the Canadian Army overseas from 1940 – 1945 and then returned to Surrey BC. In 1948 he began his career as a customs officer at the White Rock/Blaine border crossings and married Edna Oswald. Upon Barney’s retirement in 1976 he and Edna moved to their cabin in the woods on Drewry Lake near 100 Mile House where they enjoyed a simple life of camping, fishing and playing cards with their friends.

In 1990 Barney and Edna moved down the road a few miles to Sulphurous Lake where they continued to enjoy their country life. After Edna’s death in 1995 Barney went to live with his daughter Karen in Clearwater and in 1997 he moved to his own apartment there at the Evergreen Acres Senior Housing Complex.

Barney loved his life and friends in Clearwater, especially the golf games and dinners with Steve and Joanne and Wayne and Betsy, his lunches and visits with Chuck, the constant company of his dear friend Morris, and his treats from Terry. He also looked forward to his many visits with his Kamloops friend and old army buddy Al Manual.

The greatest joy in Barney’s life were his children Karen (David) Montgomery and Howard (Pat) Jones; his grandchildren Bear (August) Bergmann, Jenny (Derek) Batula, Brandi Montgomery, Tarah (Kyle) Jones and Cody (Amanda) Jones; his great grandchildren Colin, Martin and Katrina Bergmann; and his great great granddaughter Ariel Montgomery. He was the best pa and grandpa anyone could ever ask for and will be greatly missed by his family. He will also be missed by his special family Bill Oswald and Gerri (Bob) Perry.

Barney was predeceased by his parents, his wife Edna and his brothers Alfred Jones and Raymond Jones. He will be sadly missed by his brothers Jack (Anne) Jones and Gil Jones, and sisters Nancy (Ben) Parsons and Hilda Dinney.

Barney was a long time member of the Royal Canadian Legion and a life time member of the Semiahmoo Fish and Game Club in Surrey BC.

In lieu of flowers donations to Evergreen Acres Society Box 1002 Clearwater BC V0E 1N0 would be greatly appreciated. Celebrations of life will be held in Clearwater and in the Lower Mainland in late September or early October.
