In Loving Memory of

Dr. Alan Herbert Child

November 26, 1924 – February 6, 2007

After a lengthy illness, Alan Child died at Dr. Helmcken Memorial Hospital in Clearwater, BC. He is survived by Joyce, his devoted wife of 56 years, his daughters Diana Wort, Jennifer Child and Allison Child, his grandson, Matthew MacDonald, and his dog, Hamlet.

Alan was a dedicated educator. He taught and was an administrator in several districts around the province. Notably, he was the principal of Clearwater High School in the 1960’s. In 1971 he got his Ph.D. at the University of Alberta, and then became a full professor of education at Notre Dame University in Nelson, BC.

In 1980, Alan fulfilled a life long dream and retired to his property lovingly called “Sky’s Edge” located between Vavenby and Birch Island, in British Columbia’s beautiful North Thompson valley.

Alan was an active member of community dramatic events such as the “Donut Shop” comedy group and performances at the Flower Meadows summer events. He was also pleased to be a candidate for the Green Party in the 1996 provincial election.

He will be greatly missed.

Alan’s memorial service was held Saturday, February 10, 2007 at the Vavenby Christian Church with Ian Moilliet officiating.
