WGCF has grant money to give away

Wells Gray Community Forest could have up to $100,000 to give away to worthy community projects this fall, according to Clearwater councilor Bert Walker

Wells Gray Community Forest could have up to $100,000 to give away to worthy community projects this fall, according to Clearwater councilor Bert Walker.

“This is quite a hunk of money,” he told town council during its June 21 meeting.

Walker, who is the District of Clearwater's appointee to the society that owns the community forest’s shares, reported that details of the application process have been finalized and should be on the WGCFC website shortly.

Ads on how to apply for funding also should be coming out soon. The application window will likely be from Sept. 15 to Oct. 15, he said.

Applicants will not need to be a registered society, just a bona fide community group.

The intent is to have two application windows each year, spring and fall.

Walker noted that the community forest has already given away some significant grants, including $30,000 to get the Rotary Sports Park project underway.

“It’s a great project. I’m glad we’re getting it,” Walker said.
