VICTORIA - With over a thousand submissions already received, government is extending the second phase of public consultation on B.C.'s new Climate Leadership Plan by two weeks, until April 8, 2016.
This extension will give citizens and stakeholders additional time to provide their thoughts on climate action ideas, values and priorities for British Columbia's Climate Leadership Plan, to be released later this spring.
"British Columbians have been providing excellent examples to lower greenhouse gas emissions and take advantage of the low carbon economy of the future,” said Mary Polak, Environment Minister. “We are extending the Climate Leadership Plan consultation period to ensure citizens who want to participate in the process have the opportunity and time to do so. We want the final Climate Leadership Plan to reflect the values of British Columbians."
Feedback received to date has touched on a variety of climate topics, with the most popular being transportation, clean technology and clean energy, and carbon pricing. Other prominent areas of discussion include buildings and communities as well as climate adaptation.
Together with the first public engagement last summer, the Climate Leadership Plan website has received over 20,000 visits and almost 8,000 pieces of input.
The current format for engagement has proven very successful, as evidenced by the high volume and wide variety of feedback received. As a result the engagement will continue in its present form.
Along with the public engagement, government continues to carry out sector-specific industry consultation on the next phase of climate action in the province.
All feedback received will be reviewed and considered in the development of the final plan.
B.C.'s Climate Leadership Plan will include new climate actions to drive down emissions while supporting a growing economy.
