Numerous travel advisories have been issued by DriveBC for sections of Highway 5 as the area experiences icy roads caused by rain and mild temperatures over the last couple of days.

The northbound lane of Highway 5 is closed due to vehicle recovery, between Avola East Frontage Rd. south access and Avola Frontage Rd. access. An assessment is in progress and vehicles are flowing through single lane, alternating traffic, according to DriveBC.

An update is expected at 4 p.m.

Another section of Highway 5 is closed to single lane, alternating traffic 23 kms south of Valemount, also due to a vehicle recovery.

In addition, multiple travel advisories were implemented by DriveBC the morning of Jan. 13 for multiple sections of Highway 5 due to slippery and foggy conditions including:

- Between McLure Ferry Road and Mount Ollie Street for about 45 kilometres (about 13 km south of Barriere to two km south if Little Fort);

- Black ice between Webb Rd. and Wire Cache Rest Area for 81 km (two kms south of Little Fort to 18 kms south of Avola), with limited visibility and fog; and

- Slippery sections between McMurphy pullout and the end of Highway 5 to Tete Jaune.
