Map shows the location of six properties that were under evacuation alert because of a forest fire to the north of them. The alert was rescinded Thursday afternoon.

An evacuation alert issued Tuesday afternoon for six properties located a few kilometers north of the north end of Adams Lake was rescinded at 5 p.m. on Thursday.

A notice from the Thompson-Nicola Regional District Emergency Operations Centre stated that the EOC had been advised by the Wildfire Management Branch that the imminent risk of danger to life and properties due to the Adams West wildfire had diminished.

The EOC notes that an evacuation alert or order may need to be reissued if the risk of danger to life and property should again warrant such action.

The Adams West fire is located a few kilometers north of Adams Lake near the Adams West Forest Service Road. It was discovered on Monday, July 20. As of Thursday evening it was reported to be 30 ha in size and 60 per cent contained.

The southern division, which is closest to homes, was reported to be completely contained with guard and well into the mop-up stage.

Firefighters continued to work on establishing guard around the northern division.

The forecast calls for a 30 – 40 per cent chance of precipitation today with an increased chance of showers over the weekend.

The cooler temperatures combined with rising humidities will aid in suppression efforts into the weekend. The fire danger rating however remains “high” with areas of “extreme” in several areas across the Kamloops Fire Centre.

BC Wildfire Service reminds the public to exercise caution when in the backcountry and to avoid high risk activities that could start a wildfire.

In periods of increased fire activity it is imperative that resources are available to direct to naturally-occurring wildfires.
