TNRD Fire Protection Service Meetings Planned

Meeting on June 11, 7 p.m. in Clearwater Legion to discuss fire service for areas such as Birch Island that do no have fire protection

The Thompson-Nicola Regional District is holding two public meetings on Tuesday, June 11, and Wednesday, June 12, to consider the establishment of a Co-Terminus Fire Protection Service in the North Thompson Valley.

The idea of a continuous fire protection area in the North Thompson Valley has been discussed by six fire chiefs (McLure, Barriere, Little Fort, Blackpool, Clearwater and Vavenby) for more than 10 years and all fire chiefs have pledged their support for a Co- Terminus Fire Protection Service.

The June 11 meeting will take place at the Clearwater Legion at 7 p.m. for residents along the Yellowhead South Highway 5 between Vavenby and Birch Island and for those who live along Birch Island Lost Creek Road, Roundtop Round and McCracken Road.

The June 12 meeting will take place upstairs at the Little Fort Community Hall at 7 p.m. for residents along the Yellowhead South Highway 5 between the communities of Little Fort and Barriere.

Feedback from this meeting will form the basis for the ultimate decision on whether to proceed with establishment of the service.
