An opportunity has arisen to apply for a grant of up to $400,000 in funding for development of a community park at the Blackpool Hall property.
The Thompson-Nicola Regional District board has approved this grant application as one of only three available to the entire TNRD rural area. Local funding of $80,000 will be required and is available in our parks budget.
We may not receive the entire amount but are applying for the maximum that is available. Timelines are short for the grant application and preliminary plans are being developed as part of the application. Further discussions on the final design will take place with the property owners (Star Lake Women’s Institute), Blackpool Hall Committee and area residents once we determine how much funding will be available for the project.
TNRD board of directors
The final board meeting of the current directors was held on Nov. 24. Chair Milobar, mayor of Kamloops, announced that he will not be seeking another term as chair of the TNRD. A new chair and vice chair will be elected at the Dec. 8 inaugural board meeting. All directors new and current will also swear their Oath of Office at the inaugural meeting. A reception will follow the meeting.
An orientation session for directors is scheduled for the following day. The board will see eight new directors in total.
I have had conversations with several of the newly elected representatives and look forward to working with them all.
Area committees
Many committee appointments are up for renewal in January and I have a few current vacancies to fill. If you are interested in being involved in part of the rural government processes, please contact me.
There just may be a position on a committee with your name on it!
