Thompson-Nicola Regional District board of directors has approved the purchase, engineering and installation of four pre-engineered metal buildings for proposed new Clearwater and Louis Creek Eco-Depots. The decision was made during a board meeting held Thursday, March 10, in Kamloops.
The board also approved the purchase of 12 truck scales for the TNRD’s landfills and eco-depots.
“These are two major purchases for us,” said Don May, the TNRD’s environmental health services manager. “These are also two big steps in completing our eco-depots in Clearwater and Louis Creek, and getting the ball rolling at further eco-depots planned for the area.
The four buildings will cost $1.5 million.
Two of the buildings will be enclosed 100-foot by 100-foot structures with a split-level design that will be used for receiving and transferring refuse.
The other two buildings will be 70-foot by 70-foot structures, also with a split-level design. They will be used for receiving and transferring recyclable materials.
The upper levels of the four buildings will be for drop-off of refuse and recycling and the lower level is where the transfer trailers will be parked for loading.
Focus Corporation, a Kamloops-based engineering firm that is managing the construction of the buildings, received nine quotations from various building suppliers and fabricators and chose the Kelowna-based MSC Metal Structure Concepts Inc.’s bid.
The 12 truck scales - consisting of seven 80-foot by 11-foot and five 40-foot by 11-foot scales, plus appurtenances and installation - will be provided by Mettler-Toledo (Canada) Inc. and cost $417,226. The 12 scales will be placed at the Heffley Creek and Lower Nicola landfills, and at future eco-depots at Clearwater, Louis Creek, South Thompson, Clinton, Logan Lake, Lytton, Savona and 70 Mile House. The TNRD received quotations from three suppliers before choosing Mettler-Toledo (Canada) Inc.
