The Clearwater Times won first place for general excellence in its circulation class from BC and Yukon Community Newspaper Association. The trophy was awarded during a gala held Saturday evening, April 26, at the River Rock Casino in Richmond.
The judges' comments were: "The North Thompson Times excels at everything, from its editorial page to classifieds. Very polished, with an excellent mix of hard news and feature stories supported by attractive, effective advertising. The Times scored well for its comprehensive and extensive coverage of the area it serves, and the team there should be proud of the high quality of their writing. Excellent work."
This was the third time the newspaper has won first place for general excellence from BCYCNA during the 16 years that Black Press has owned it.
The BCYCNA is a non-profit membership organization representing 124 community newspapers throughout British Columbia and the Yukon, with a combined readership of over 2 million.
For over 90 years, the BCYCNA has been celebrating excellence amongst its member newspapers. The Ma Murray Community Newspaper Awards recognizes all aspects of the newspaper industry, including production, publishing, reporting, editing, advertising, photography, website design and community contribution.
The Times' sister paper, the Barriere Star/Journal, tied for fourth place in general excellence with BCYCNA.
Earlier this year the Times took second place for best all-round newspaper in its circulation class with Canadian Community Newspaper Association.
