The Thompson-Nicola Regional District (TNRD) board of directors passed a motion to send a request to the Ministry of Transportation, asking it conduct an independent review of the maintenance standards for Yellowhead Highway 5 from Hole in the Wall to Valemount.
The request also asks for the necessary upgrades to protect drivers and reduce the number of motor vehicle accident spills into the North Thompson River.
These negatively impact water users in the TNRD’s Vavenby water system as well as others who use the North Thompson River as their water source, said Carol Schaffer, director for TNRD Area “A.”
At the TNRD regular board meeting on Jan. 17, Schaffer put forth the motion after two truck crashes happened in one week on the highway.
