As of Monday, the search for missing Cache Creek fire chief Clayton Cassidy continued, with Ashcroft RCMP coordinating the efforts. Cassidy disappeared in the early hours of Friday, May 5 while checking water levels in the town.
Sgt. Kathleen Thain of the Ashcroft detachment said that swift-water search and rescue crews would be in Cache Creek in the morning and afternoon of May 8 to search and re-search Cache Creek. The search effort went from rescue to recovery late on May 6.
Volunteers on the ground were to continue the search on foot throughout the day. Extensive search efforts took place over the weekend, with more than 30 search and rescue volunteers, as well as members of the Cache Creek and Kamloops fire departments, members of the Cassidy family, and community members taking part.
RCMP Victim Assistance personnel were in place to provide support to the Cassidy family, as well as to members of the community who have been affected by this tragic incident.
