The provincial government has approved more than $2.6 million in funding for upgrade projects and classroom supplies — money that will see improvements to Valleyview secondary and Barriere elementary.

The two schools will see improvements to their heating, ventilation and air-conditioning systems and plumbing lines paid for with $1.2 million of the total.

It will be drawn from the province’s school enhancement program.

Equipment and supplies, including textbooks, will be bought with $731,202 of the total amount that comes as a student-learning grant.

Other items it will be used to buy include lab equipment and art supplies. School District 73 will consult with parents and teachers on how to use this one-time funding.

The district will also receive $671,839 to buy five new buses.
