The Robson Valley is receiving $300,000 from the B.C. Rural Dividend, Prince George-Valemount MLA Shirley Bond announced recently.
Village of Valemount will receive $100,000 to develop a modern and comprehensive technology tool that will help the Valemount Community Forest to access up-to-date information on its wood supply and to assess the manufacturing capacity and vegetation resource inventory.
“This grant is a major step to rebuild our manufacturing industry that collapsed in 2006,” said Craig Pryor, manager Valemount Community Forest Company. “It allows the Valemount Community Forest to access up to date knowledge on our wood supply and gives us confidence to sustainably maximize our fibre flows.”
Valemount Learning Society will receive $100,000 to help create a not-for-profit college.
“The Valemount Learning Society is so thankful and extremely excited about receiving the BC Rural Dividend Funding,” said Jennifer Applebaum, the society's president. “ We look forward to growing Valemount College as a social enterprise, and enhancing the economic development of the Village of Valemount.”
Community Futures Development Corporation of Fraser Fort George will receive $100,000 to deliver a training and support program to help farmers access tools and resources offered through Small Business B.C.’s Export Navigator.
The announcements follow earlier announcements that Simpcw First Nation is to receive about $10,000 from BC Rural Dividend program to investigate becoming a contractor on the proposed Valemount Glacier Destination Resort, and Village of McBride is to get a $10,000 grant for new project development.
