Yesterday visibility there was better visibilty, and BC Wildfire Service and BC Parks personnel were able to assess the Helmcken Falls wildfire from the air, burning roughly 1.6 kilometers west of Helmcken Falls in Wells Gray Provincial Park.

The fire hasn’t grown in size, and is still estimated at 37 hectares. The cooler temperatures and rain have been a help and the fire hasn’t been burning as rapidly, though personnel could still see smoke. The photo above was taken during the aerial assessment yesterday afternoon.

The Helmcken Falls wildfire was discovered Monday and as mentioned, hasn’t grown past 37 hectares.

The fire was showing rank four fire behaviour, moving northeast along the ridge of the cliff and earlier this week, seven personnel were onsite, but had to be pulled off because the aggressive fire behaviour caused by winds at the time.

Updates will be provided as they become available.
