Cattle, horses, goats and other large animals will soon be able to get emergency care in the North Thompson Valley.
Experienced veterinarian Dr. Rob Mulligan has started a mobile practice for the area, according to a social media post by Wells Gray Country Vet Recruitment Coalition (WGCVRC). The service follows the retirement of the local veterinarian last year.
Mulligan, who has 16 years experience, will focus on large animals for on-farm appointments for services including vaccines, health exams, pregnancy testing and field surgeries. His practice will also offer emergency services.
It will not provide services for smaller animals, such as dogs and cats, although the WGCVRC said they are still on the hunt to bring another vet to the area.
Appointments for the new practice will not begin until February and an opening date has yet to be determined. Contact information will be posted by the WGCVRC for Dr. Mulligan once it is available. The WGCVRC post noted a meet-and-greet will also be held locally in the near future.
The WGCVRC was established in March 2021 following the former veterinarian’s retirement. The group put together a campaign, including a Facebook page, website and video, in an effort to bring a veterinarian to the North Thompson.
Since being posted online, the recruitment video has been viewed by 1,100 people in various countries, including Canada, the United States and the United Kingdom.
