Clearwater RCMP report that on Thursday, Feb. 16, police received a call regarding a suspicious person and vehicle parked off Highway 5 just across the bridge from Avola.

The vehicle was described as an older beige Nissan sedan and the driver was a white male around 30 years old, clean cut, with brown/reddish hair.

The caller had thought it was suspicious the vehicle was parked in that location and approached the male, who swore at the caller to leave. Police were unable to locate the vehicle after the fact.

Road-check at roundabout

On Feb. 17 around 10:30 p.m., Clearwater police set up a road-check at the Highway 5 roundabout for approximately an hour.

Around 40 vehicles were checked going through the area during that time.

One driver was given a warning for a burnt-out headlight and another received a three-day driving suspension for driving while affected by alcohol.

Snowmobile trailer destroyed in collision

On Feb. 17, a two vehicle collision in Blue River was reported to police.

The initial report to police indicated a semi-truck had collided with a pickup truck while driving on Highway 5. The report was that the semi had a flat tire and needed a tow, and there were no injuries.

What the caller failed to report, was that there was significantly more damage than a flat tire.

The semi had attempted to pass two vehicles at once. The second vehicle had slowed as the first, a pickup with an enclosed snowmobile trailer (carrying two snowmobiles) was attempting to make a left turn.

The pickup began turning left and the semi, attempting to pass, collided with the trailer.

The trailer was completely demolished and both snowmobiles suffered significant damage, as well as much more damage to the semi.

Clearwater RCMP would like to thank the witnesses and tow companies involved for providing a great deal of assistance throughout the investigation.
