Driver found after rollover

Clearwater RCMP report that on Wednesday, Feb. 28, police received a report of a single vehicle rollover.

A member attended the scene and located the vehicle on its side with no occupants around.

The member was able to locate the driver, who was not injured.

The roadways were very slippery due to black ice. Alcohol was not a factor.

Semi spills lumber on Messiter

On March 1, police attended a report of an overturned semi on Messiter Summit.

The semi’s load of lumber was scattered across the highway. The driver was checked for minor injuries.

Alcohol was not a factor and the driver was issued a violation ticket under the Motor Vehicle Act.

Phony iTunes rep

Clearwater RCMP received a report that an individual received multiple calls from someone claiming to be an iTunes representative stating that the individual’s account was overdue and there was $200 owing.

The individual purchased a prepaid iTunes card as requested then mailed it off.

The individual then received another call stating that the account still required $300 to clear the account.

Clearwater RCMP reminds the public that they can report frauds/scams to the Canadian Anti-Fraud Centre (www.antifraudcentre-centreantifraude.ca or by phone 1-888-495-8501).

The public can also view the website to learn of the current phone and email scams.

Hit and run

On March 1 police received a report of a BC Hydro pole on Schmidt Rd. that had been hit by an unknown vehicle.

The pole was leaning significantly, which caused the wires to be within a few feet of the roadway. BC Hydro attended and determined that the post would need to be replaced immediately.

The suspect vehicle likely has significant damage to its rear passenger side.

Crash near Birch Island

Police received a report of a semi that had crashed into the ditch near Birch Island. The semi was blocking both lanes of traffic.

Driver was not injured and was issued a violation ticket under the Motor Vehicle Act. Alcohol was not a factor.

Excessive speed

Central Interior Traffic Services impounded a vehicle for traveling 50 km/h over the posted speed limit.

The driver was issued a $368 ticket for excessive speed.

Immediate roadside prohibitions

Both Central Interior Traffic Services and Clearwater General Duty members have issued 90-day immediate roadside prohibitions (IRPs) after drivers provided breath samples that resulted in a fail.

The drivers lost their licenses for 90 days and their vehicles were impounded for 30 days.

Don’t drive while distracted

March 2 was National Distracted Driving Day.

Central Interior Traffic Services issued numerous warnings and violation tickets, which included failure to wear seat-belts.

Traffic services members will continue to be visible on the highway.

Police would like to thank the general public for reporting erratic drivers. These calls to police have resulted in various impaired drivers and excessive speeders being removed from our roadways.
