New sergeant at Clearwater RCMP
Clearwater RCMP detachment has a new NCO-in-charge. Sgt. Grant Simpson took over the detachment in mid-July – at about the same time as when the Little Fort fire complex blew up.
“I was baptized by fire,” he said. “I came just when it was just starting to rage.”
A 20-year veteran with the police, Simpson comes here from Invermere in the Columbia Valley.
“We love it here,” he said. “It’s a great fit for our family.”
Simpson takes the place of Sgt. Kevin Podbisky, who has transferred to Prince George.

Outdoor grow operation
During the past week, Clearwater RCMP took down and seized an illegal outdoor marijuana grow operation from a residence off of Camp 2 Road.
Police continue to investigate all parties involved.

Theft from mail boxes
RCMP were advised of a male using a crowbar to pry open the community mailboxes at the top of the hill of Lost Creek Road near Birch Island.
The suspect is described as a white male, 5’8’, 22 to 23 years of age, with dark hair, driving a newer red car with an Alberta license plate and heading southbound on Highway 5.
Impaired collision
Report was made of a possible suicidal male from Alberta believed to be driving to Penticton.
Police located the driver, who had crashed his brand new vehicle into the ditch.
There were no injuries sustained but the driver was intoxicated by alcohol.
Police gave the driver a 90-day immediate roadside prohibition and a 30-day vehicle impound.
The driver was then transported to the hospital to see a doctor at his request.
Assault and utter threats
A local male was arrested for assault and uttering threats.
He was released on a promise to appear in Clearwater Court and on numerous conditions that must be followed.
Aggravated assault and breach of undertaking
A local male was arrested for aggravated assault and breaching numerous previous release conditions.
The male was taken to Kamloops and placed in cells to go in front of a judge.
