RCMP Report: Motor vehicle incidents on Messiter

Because of the icy conditions and weather changes near Messiter, motorists are recommended to reduced their speed and drive with caution

Over the previous week, Clearwater RCMP has attended numerous motor vehicle incidents on Highway 5 at Messiter Summit and in the Wire Cache area.

The incidents included a vehicle rollover, a Ford pickup striking a no-post, as well as two tractor-trailer units suffering minor damages due to an incident while passing.

Because of the icy conditions of the roads and the sudden weather changes near Messiter, motorists are recommended to reduced their speed and drive with caution while on the highway.

Pedestrian struck by side mirror

Clearwater RCMP received a report that a pedestrian was struck by a mirror of a vehicle on Old North Thompson Highway.

Police determined that a SUV, eastbound on Old North Thompson, struck a young female in the arm with its side mirror. The incident occurred during the night after a heavy snow and the female was walking with a group of her friends.

Currently the file is under investigation. However, pedestrians and motorist are urged to use caution while driving and walking on the roads at night during winter conditions.

Fender bender ends in prohibition

Use caution and look at your surroundings while driving. This statement was made true when a Clearwater member was informed of a fender bender while attending court.

The complainant indicated that a local resident had driven into the court parking lot and bumped into the no-post while attempting to park. The driver then tried to reverse and in the process struck the complainant’s vehicle.

The member looked into the driving record of the driver and learned a notice of prohibition was to be served. The member delivered the notice to the driver at the driver’s residence.
